A day dedicated to celebrating the glorious film industries across the nation: Today is National Cinema Day. On October 13 every year people honour the art and culture of cinema. The Multiplex Association of India (MAI) is offering movie tickets at a price as low as Rs. 99 in cinema halls across the country. After taking a bad hit for some years now, the film industry and the Multiplexes have had a successful year so far, and the new initiative celebrates this by providing easier access to movies.

When the pandemic hit, the cinema business and its owners suffered major losses. This day was initiated by the Multiplex Association of India in 2022 to mark the reopening of cinema halls post the lockdown and to show solidarity and support for the cinema hall owners. Over 4,000 screens at multiplexes from India, including PVR, INOX, Cinepolis, Movie Time, Miraj, City Pride, Asian, Mukta A2, Wave, M2K and Delite, have teamed up to participate in the National Cinema Day celebrations.

This occasion is a day to honour the contributions of the filmmakers, actors, technicians, and artists who have played a pivotal role in shaping the Indian film landscape. It serves as a reminder of the power of cinema to inspire, entertain, educate, and provoke thought. The Indian film industry movies are known for their vibrant song-and-dance sequences, dramatic storytelling, and larger-than-life productions. On National Cinema Day, cinephiles gather for special screenings of classic and contemporary Hindi films. Additionally, there are events that pay tribute to the iconic actors, directors, and other professionals who have left an indelible mark on the industry.

MAI’s Special Offer

The record of the highest-ever single-day admissions of 6.5 million was set on National Cinema Day last year. This year, the footfall is expected to increase given the “Rs. 99 movie tickets” offer. The letter states, “This special occasion brings audiences of all ages together for a day of cinematic bliss, celebrating the incredible success of multiple films at the box office this year. It’s a heartfelt “thank you” to all the moviegoers who contributed to this success and an open invitation to those who haven’t yet returned to their local cinema.
