The largest, and perhaps most visible critics group in the country, Critics Choice, has now had its say. Voted on by a collective of broadcast, print, and digital journalists, it’s the only critics group with a live television broadcast. The 2024 Critics Choice Awards aired live on January 14, with Chelsea Handler returning to host for the second consecutive year. And we now have the winners!

The nominations for its 29th Edition were announced last month with Greta Gerwig’s Barbie bagging 18 nominations. Christopher Nolan’s ‘Oppenheimer‘ and Yorgos Lanthimos’ ‘Poor Things had 13 nominations each, while Martin Scorsese’s ‘Killers of the Flower Moon earned 12 nods. What seemed like a ‘Barbie’ sweep, actually turned out to be an ‘Oppenheimer’ victory.

The ceremony shook up the awards race, handing Best Actress to Emma Stone for “Poor Things” and Best Actor to Paul Giamatti for his marvellous performance in “The Holdovers”. There were a few surprises on the television side as well. “The Bear,” “Succession” and “Beef” won big, each taking multiple acting awards and winning Best Comedy Series, Best Drama Series and Best Limited Series, respectively.

The Bear” and “Beef”, both took home four awards, and “Succession” was awarded three.
