WhatsApp through their Google Play Beta Program has launched a new update. The update has brought the version up to 2.21.17.5. As per reports the 2.21.17.5 beta version has introduced a new feature called ‘Status Updates’. Let’s have a look at this new feature.
WABetaInfo says: “WhatsApp is working on something about status updates, for a future update: the possibility to view status updates tapping the profile picture!”
For this new feature, WhatsApp is taking a route quite similar to Twitter Fleets. When a user taps the profile picture WhatsApp will present an alert asking the user if they want to view the status update or the profile picture.
Right now when a profile picture is tapped all that can be seen is that user’s DP (Display Picture) and there is a different tab for user status. But we can only assume that the feature will just be an add on to the already existing status tab.
Currently the ‘Status Updates’ feature is under development and will be available to everyone after being released in a future update.
