Sam Altman openly discussed Musk's departure from OpenAI, describing it as a 'difficult' moment, during a conversation with The New Yorker.

Altman mentioned that Musk's departure was challenging, requiring him to reorient his life & time to secure sufficient funding for the company.

Eventually, Microsoft invested billions of dollars in OpenAI and the partnership continues running strong even today.

The exact amount that Musk invested in OpenAI isn't known. However, in a tweet in March this year, he said that he invested around 100 million in the company.
