Twitter Is Introducing Upvote and Downvote Buttons

Twitter is working on testing upvote and downvote buttons on tweets, which will be a new way to allow users to interact with tweets. The feature will be an add on to accompany the usual options to retweet and reply.

Some key notes about this experiment, as explained by Twitter Support:

  • This is just a test for research right now.
  • This is not a dislike button.
  • Your downvotes are visible to you only.
  • Votes won’t change the order of replies.

According to The Verge: “Twitter writes that iOS users may see upvote and downvotes in several different styles (up and down arrows, a heart icon and a down arrow, and thumbs up and thumbs down icons) and that it’s testing the feature to “understand the types of replies you find relevant in a convo, so we can work on ways to show more of them.” Currently votes are not public.

While Twitter hasn’t said if it plans to add up and down voting as a permanent feature. It has however confirmed that the upvotes or downvotes won’t impact the order of tweets. The feature isn’t the first time when Twitter has rolled out a new interactive feature for tweets.

Previously it was also reported that it is working on ‘Tweet Reactions’. To know more about Twitter To Soon Let You React To Tweets via ‘TWEET REACTIONS’ covered by us previously.
