Hailing from Moosa, a village in the Punjab district, Shubhdeep Singh Sidhu better known by his stage name Sidhu Moosewala was an Indian singer, rapper, actor, and politician associated with Punjabi music and Punjabi cinema. Moosewala had a fan following of millions and was popular for his rap music. He had learned music during his college days and later on moved to Canada.

The news of the unfortunate passing of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala has shocked many. According to police sources, he was shot multiple times by a group of attackers last year in Jawaharke village of Mansa district. Despite the numerous shots fired, the attackers reportedly checked to see if he was still alive.

Condolences pour in for Sidhu Moose Wala, the singer-turned-politician from everyone- from the film fraternity to the political supporters. “We stand united & undeterred, at this time of extreme grief,” the Congress party tweeted from its official Twitter handle.

Sidhu Moosewala began his career as a songwriter for the song “License” by Ninja and his singing career with the duet song “G Wagon”. His ticket to fame was the hit 2017 song “So High” which was released on his YouTube channel and helped him to garner 10.7 million YouTube subscribers.

After “So High”, Moosewala delivered hits like “Issa Jatt”, “Tochan”, “Selfmade”, “Famous”, “Warning Shots”, “Legend”, “47”, and “Tibeyan Da Putt” among others.

His 2019 single “47” was ranked on the UK Singles Chart. In 2020, Moosewala was named by The Guardian among 50 up-and-coming artists. Ten of his songs have peaked on the UK Asian chart, two of which have topped the chart. He won the Best Album Award at the 2019 Brit Asia TV Music Awards, where Moosewala also won Track of the Year for “Legend”, Best International Male Act, and Best Lyricist.

In 2019, Spotify included him in the list of the most popular artists in Punjab, along with Maninder Buttar and Karan Aujla.

In May 2021, Moosewala released his third studio album, Moosetape, which contains 32 tracks. On 12 September 2021, he performed at the Wireless Festival in London. Mooseww]ala was the first Indian singer to perform at this festival.

Besides singing, Sidhu Moosewala had a brief history of acting. He played the lead role in the 2021 film Moosa Jatt. Moosewala was also seen in Yes I Am Student, Teri Meri Jodi, and Jattan Da Munda Gaun Lagya.
