For a virtual July boutique event, Indian rapper Dilin Nair, popularly known as Raftaar accepted cryptocurrency as his performance fee. It’s going to be hosted for an hour in Ottawa, Canada for a private gathering of a hundred people. He’s the first Indian artist who embraced the use of cryptocurrency despite all the uncertainties. He plans to continue accepting cryptocurrency for his future as well.
Not only rapping, but Raftaar’s skills also lie in music composing and writing lyrics. He divulged that his manager, Ankit Sharma was the one who actually arranged the whole acceptance of cryptocurrency. The rapper revealed to IANS, “Nevertheless, I’ve finally taken the baby steps in this direction and all the credit goes to my manager, Ankit Khanna for making this dream a reality for me.” Another driving factor was his admiration for blockchain technology.
Raftaar wonders the reason behind Indian artists and managers not exploring the digital asset. As stated by Khanna in Economic Times, “In my opinion, music will be one of the first industries to be completely and thoroughly disrupted through the blockchain. The artist can now go directly to the public in every single way without the need of middlemen. Blockchain has the potential to expedite a seamless experience for anyone involved with generating or interacting with music. I’m happy to welcome this new transactional paradigm with my longtime business associate Raftaar who truly is a pioneering voice of this new generation.” International artists like Backstreet Boys, Mariah Carey¸Fall Out Boy, G-Eazy, Lana Del Rey, Sia, and 50 Cent have all tried out the disruptive medium.
