Nitibha Kaul’s appearance at the Cannes Film Festival!!

For Nitibha Kaul’s appearance at the Cannes Film Festival, Nicol Sposa envisioned a couture creation that would reflect both refined craftsmanship and the quiet strength of her presence. Nitibha exudes modern elegance with an inner confidence that inspired us to design a piece that is both ethereal and empowered.

The gown is entirely hand-embroidered in a delicate pastel mint palette, with intricate detailing that celebrates artisanal tradition. Sparkling rhinestone crystals were thoughtfully placed to catch the light with every movement—subtle yet striking, just like her. To complement the silhouette, we added an over-shoulder shawl in sheer, shiny nude pastel organza, creating a fluid contrast that adds dimension and softness to the look.

This harmonious blend of mint and nude tones, layered with shimmer and transparency, expresses our design philosophy: timeless romance, interpreted through a contemporary lens. The final ensemble is a tribute to femininity, strength, and the enduring beauty of individuality—perfectly aligned with Nitibha’s own unique aura.

A signature of elegance. A signature of dreams. — Nicol Sposa A Saree for Cannes: A Tribute to Heritage and Modernity.

The saree is not just a garment—it’s one of the most sensual and powerful symbols of Indian heritage. This humble yet iconic silhouette has inspired countless designers and couturiers across generations, constantly being reimagined through new lenses.

As a new-age Indian designer, I believe it is our responsibility to present and celebrate our rich culture on global platforms in ways that feel both rooted and refreshingly modern.

So when we were approached for Cannes this season, I knew instantly that I wanted to create a conceptual saree. My design philosophy has always revolved around exploring the many facets of womanhood, and this creation was no exception.

At its heart, the look represents duality—the balance of strength and softness. I used uncut diamonds (kundan), known for their raw and untamed beauty, to craft a chainmail-like fabric fashioned into a high-neck, backless blouse—an ode to modern-day armour. This was then draped with nine yards of soft, fluid fabric, evoking the calm, graceful, and demure side of a woman.

This interplay of contrasts—the fierce and the feminine, the bold and the serene—is what excited me most. It’s a celebration of the powerful dual nature that exists within every woman.
