Instagram Rolls out the ‘Following’ Filter in the Reels Tab!

In a move that has all Instagram users buzzing, the famous social media platform has rolled out a new feature that poses tough competition for its rival platform, TikTok. Get ready to say hello to the new “Following” filter in the Reels tab. Say goodbye to random reels and hello to a small yet significant update that’s poised to revolutionize the way you experience short video content on the platform.

Until now, Instagram’s Reels tab presented users with a mixed bag of content. Whether you followed accounts or not, your Reels feed was an amalgamation of posts from the accounts you follow and recommended clips based on what others have liked. It made us feel as if we were watching TV where we couldn’t choose the channel.

With this new update, users can now enter the world of selected reels with the “Following” feed. Just like TikTok’s “For You” and “Following” streams, users now have the power to curate their Reels experience. With a simple tap, users can switch to a view that displays only the latest videos from the accounts they follow and like. It’s a bit like having a remote control for your Instagram Reels.

Instagram’s ‘Following’ Filter Takes Center Stage!

While this update brings Instagram users closer to a better user experience when compared to TikTok, there’s a fundamental difference between the two platforms. Most users on Instagram follow a diverse range of accounts, and their interests span beyond just Reels. Unlike TikTok, where you might follow accounts solely for the purpose of enjoying short video content, Instagram users follow accounts for a multitude of reasons.

In essence, Instagram’s “Following” feed for Reels might not be as tempting as TikTok’s main display. After all, TikTok’s entire premise is centered around short video content, whereas Instagram is more of an all-in-one platform. Nevertheless, it’s still a valuable addition, especially for those who want a more streamlined Reels experience. The option is there, and it’s great for people who genuinely want to see only the content from accounts they’ve carefully chosen to follow.

Here’s a breakdown of how to use the Instagram ‘Following’ feature:

Access the ‘Reels’ Tab: Open your Instagram app and navigate to the ‘Reels’ tab, typically located at the bottom of the screen. In the upper left corner, you’ll see the “Reels” title.

Tap on the ‘Reels’ Title: Simply tap on the “Reels” title. This action will prompt a dropdown menu to appear on your screen.

Select ‘Following’: From the dropdown menu, find and select the option labeled “Following.” This is where the magic happens!

Enjoy Your Personalized Reels Feed: Congratulations, you’ve successfully switched to your personalized Reels feed. Now, you’ll see only the latest videos from the accounts you follow and like.

Return to the Main Reels Feed: If at any point you want to go back to the main Reels feed, don’t worry. It’s easy! Just tap the back arrow at the top left corner of your screen, and you’ll be back to the default Reels view.

That’s it. With a few simple taps, you can switch between your customized Reels experience and the broader Reels feed on Instagram. Enjoy exploring the content that matters most to you!

If you cherish the versatility of Instagram, the “Following” filter is your ticket to a more personalized Reels journey. So, whether you’re in the mood for a Reels binge or you prefer to mix it up with regular posts and Stories, Instagram has got you covered. Give it a try, and see how this feature enhances your Reels adventure!
