Instagram adds ‘Following’ Filter Reels
In a move that has all Instagram users buzzing, the famous social media platform has rolled out a new feature that poses tough competition for its rival platform, TikTok. Get ready to say hello to the new “Following” filter in the Reels tab. Say goodbye to random reels and hello to a small yet significant update that’s poised to revolutionize the way you experience short video content on the platform.
Until now, Instagram’s Reels tab presented users with a mixed bag of content. Whether you followed accounts or not, your Reels feed was an amalgamation of posts from the accounts you follow and recommended clips based on what others have liked. It made us feel as if we were watching TV where we couldn’t choose the channel.
With this new update, users can now enter the world of selected reels with the “Following” feed. Just like TikTok’s “For You” and “Following” streams, users now have the power to curate their Reels experience. With a simple tap, users can switch to a view that displays only the latest videos from the accounts they follow and like. It’s a bit like having a remote control for your Instagram Reels.

Access the ‘Reels’ Tab: Open your Instagram app and navigate to the ‘Reels’ tab, typically located at the bottom of the screen. In the upper left corner, you’ll see the “Reels” title.
Tap on the ‘Reels’ Title: Simply tap on the “Reels” title. This action will prompt a dropdown menu to appear on your screen.
Select ‘Following’: From the dropdown menu, find and select the option labeled “Following.” This is where the magic happens!
Enjoy Your Personalized Reels Feed: Congratulations, you’ve successfully switched to your personalized Reels feed. Now, you’ll see only the latest videos from the accounts you follow and like.
Return to the Main Reels Feed: If at any point you want to go back to the main Reels feed, don’t worry. It’s easy! Just tap the back arrow at the top left corner of your screen, and you’ll be back to the default Reels view.
