Clubhouse rolled out a new feature, Spatial Audio on August 29, 2021. As per Clubhouse Knowledge Center, “you’ll hear the speakers in a room around you in 3D, which makes the experience more lifelike and human.” Also, you will be able to determine the speaker more easily thanks to spatial cues, which makes it all the more enjoyable. All of this was possible due to Justin Uberti, Head of Streaming, Clubhouse.
Clubhouse Blog states, “Spatial Audio works best with headphones, wired or otherwise!” This is the ideal way to get the whole 3D feel of Spatial Audio. For some Bluetooth devices, this effect works, but there are still limitations in the Bluetooth protocol. According to Clubhouse Knowledge Center, “speakers will not hear the spatial audio effect when wearing Bluetooth headphones (although wired headphones work fine). We are working with mobile OS providers to address this limitation.”
Spatial Audio is only available on iOS for now. It’s soon going to be on Android too! Also, Clubhouse Blog states, “If you prefer the old listening experience, you can turn spatial audio off anytime in your settings, but we think you’re gonna love it!”
